Upper limb Rehabilitation

We will assess your upper body/ trunk and upper limbs so we can provide the best rehabilitation for your affected arm by creating a bespoke programme to improve the functional use of this arm.

This could include:

  • Retraining the upper limb during functional activities e.g., getting dressing, writing, partaking in hobbies etc…
  • Home exercise and strengthening programmes with traditional equipment
  • Gym exercise and strengthening programmes
  • Advice on splinting
  • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
  • Saebo products rehabilitation
  • Sensory re-education
  • Vibration Therapy
  • Computer apps and programs
  • Gripable 
  • Mirror box therapy
  • Kinesio taping
  • Muscle mobilisation 
  • Fascia manipulation
  • Acupuncture for upper limb function/pain

24 Hour postural/ positioning 

We will assess you in lying and sitting, to establish the best positioning for your needs and function. 

This could include:

  • Full postural assessment
  • Bespoke sleep systems and joint rep assessments
  • Bespoke seating systems and joint rep assessments
  • Bespoke postural management plan, including exercises, stretches
  • Equipment recommendations 
  • Manual handling assessments and risk assessments 
  • Assessments for splinting and referrals for orthotics

Wheelchair and seating assessments

We will assess you in lying and sitting, to establish best postural support in sitting for function. 

This could include:

  • Full postural assessment 
  • Recommendations for wheelchair provision 
  • Powerchair and wheelchair assessments
  • Referrals to NHS Services 
  • Joint wheelchair assessment and fitting with reps for specialist seating requirements

Cognitive Rehabilitation

We will assess and identify cognitive impairments caused by your brain injury. We can help develop an intervention plan to help address the cognitive impairment and offer education to your family/friends/carers about your cognitive impairment and strategies that would work best.

The below are some areas in which can be affect by brain injury that we can support you with:

  • Difficulty with attention 
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Information processing
  • Visual memory 
  • Difficulty with multi-tasking
  • Short-term or long-term memory problems
  • Planning, organising and sequencing tasks effectively
  • Difficulties with problem-solving
  • Lacking Insight and awareness into impairments

We may use multitude of approaches some of these include:

  • Use of standardised and non standarised assessments 
  • Education
  • Process training
  • Strategy Training 
  • Functional activities training

Fatigue Management

Fatigue is a common issue following a brain injury. This is due to the brain working harder to compensate for the impairments caused by the brain injury, resulting in using more energy quicker resulting in cognitive fatigue.

We will assess your fatigue levels and develop a bespoke rehab program, this could include:

  • Use of standardised and non standarised assessments 
  • Identifying factors that contribute to fatigue
  • Education for you, family, friends, carers, or your workplace
  • Support you using the 4 P's approach
  • Develop a personalised fatigue management programme to allow you to participate in your daily activities.
  • Help you learn how to anticipate and manage fatigue to help with reducing booming and busting patterns.
  • We will teach you fatigue management strategies that you can apply to your daily tasks.

Increasing Independence

We will assess and work with you to identify your functional difficulties day to day. We will work together to establish what daily activities are meaningful to you and how we can support you to overcome these difficulties. 

We may use a mixture of errorless learning, restorative and compensatory approaches to help you overcome any difficulties.We will work with you to set realistic short-term and long-term goals with regular reviews.

Below are some examples of the areas of daily living activities that we may identify and work on together:

  • Getting washed and dressed
  • Household/ domestic task
  • Medication management
  • Transferring safely in and out of bed
  • Transferring on and off your armchair or toilet
  • Driving
  • Feeding
  • Accessing public transport
  • Shopping/ accessing community
  • Computer access and safety
  • Hobbies and interests
  • Work-related roles
  • Assessment of properties- housing adaptations and equipment provision
     

Fees 

We offer a free 30-minute telephone conversation to discuss your referral and goals.

Fees will be calculated upon enquiry as each treatment intervention is a bespoke package.

Each case will usually involve:

An initial face to face assessment, which can usually last 90 -120 minutes, followed by a therapy report including recommendations

Follow Up sessions

Report Writing / rehab programmes

Admin-related tasks/ liaison with other medical professional 

Travel time and costs will be discussed during initial telephone consultation

Following your Initial telephone consultation you will receive bespoke costings for your assessment and OT-Rehab Ltd T&C's, once in agreement assessment/ treatment will commence.
